Components – Editing ModelSource Downloads
This Tutorial explains how to edit downloaded ModelSource parts in DesignSpark PCB to create customised versions of symbols and footprints and how to re-use the downloaded parts to quickly create library components for specific parts not yet covered by ModelSource
More thorough insight into this subject was a popular request from the users' community, in response to that our Expert had produced a series of three tutorial videos to explore the topic in depth and from various angles suggested by users. The first video demonstrates how to use an existing ModelSource library components and adapt it to suit a similar part that does not have a library file allocated in ModelSource. With some practice, this approach will save you time creating Schematic symbols and PCB footprints from scratch and greatly accelerate creation of new components to use in your electronics design:
The second video demonstrates how to customise downloaded ModelSource library components to your own specification or company standards. This method is very useful if you have a preferable style of schematic symbols or PCB footprints that differs from the default format provided in the ModelSource libraries:
The third video demonstrates how to create your own schematic symbols and combine them with PCB footprints from parts downloaded from ModelSource. This method is similar to the symbol customisation described in the part two of the video but takes it one step further and introduces swapping with a completely new schematic symbol rather than an amendment of the downloaded schematic symbol:
